Journal Entry For Science World
Day #1 : Journal Entry One
Today was a basic day at Science World. Through out the day me and two other science coop students from a different high School got trained together. There are many different galleries that we got trained through. I liked all the galleries. The staff and volunteers at Science World are amazing, they are all encouraging and they make Science World look like the funnest place ever. The best thing I liked at Science World was the shows that were performed at center stage. The shows are awesome, especially with the young audience that is always into it. I recommend people that are young and old to go to Science World, its a great place for everyone.
Day #5: Journal Entry two
Today was my fifth day at Science World. I started work at nine in the morning. For two hours in the morning I stamped kids and helped them put their backpacks and coats away. After the school rush was over, I was in charge of a kids gallery. In the kids gallery the most important part is the gate. If the gate is left open with out supervision for even ten minutes, the whole gallery gets crazy with kids with out parents or people that are not suppose to be in that gallery due to age differences. After lunch break, I was an assistant in gallery Search. This gallery is basically about animals. The most interesting part of this gallery is the dinosaur and the machine that tells your animal weight. For one hour of the day I was floating. I really like to float because there is no responsibility and you can go anywhere you want. After floating I was in charge of the puzzles on level one. The puzzles are amazing, some people are so interested and don't give up until they solve it. I had one customer that had to stay in an extra 15 minutes after Science World was closed, just to solve the puzzle. So far work at Science World has been excellent and I hope it remains that way.
Journal Entry three (Wed May 20)
Every weekday there are plenty of schools that come to visit Science World. I like it when schools come because there are a lot of kids there and it seems really fun. One of my favourite things at Science World is their demo cart. This cart contains a deck of cards, marbles, string and more things that you can do tricks with. I was taught a few tricks from some employees at Science World. I like to be the one doing the tricks and showing customers because of all the different reactions I can see from a customer. Today was my ninth day of work, and surprisingly Mr.Tong came to Science World and met me during my lunch break at Triple O's. All comments were good. The staff and volunteers at Science World are great.
Journal Entry four (Friday May 22)
I have finished my ten day work experience at Science World with great success. I really enjoyed working at Science World and would be happy to go back anytime they need me. My favourtie gallery was Eureka. I really liked this gallery because it was big, had fun games in it and it is the funnest gallery to play in when there are alot of kids in it. The other two galleries are also pretty fun too. In gallery search, the best and most exciting thing I got to do was walk two turtles. I liked this because I saw one turtle chase the other and it looked really funny. My goal at Science World was too atleast try and play or solve every game that was available to play in the building. I actually tried every game there, but unfortunately I did not solve al of them. I also learned some magic tricks from an experienced employee at Science World. His name was Brian. Brian is amazing, I saw him doing tricks with customers and were the customers ever so amazed. He taught me a few easy tricks, and if I worked a few more days he probably would have turned me into a magician or something. Science World is a great place and I wouldnt mind being a customer or an employee there.
JOURNAL ENTRIES For Future Shop
DAY 2: Journal Entry 1
Today was my second day of work at Future Shop. I got my name tag which says "Parm" and "Entertainment Expert" on it. (only took 2 days) I work in the entertainment department with a few other employees. I started work at eight thirty in the morning, eventhough the store opened at ten. Me and my co-workers were working hard in the morning securing and pricing new HALO games and trying to store them on the shelves before the store opened because there were customers oustside the store, waiting for the game to be released. Through out the day I helped customers and organized games and movies. My shift was done at five o'clock.
Day 5: Journal Entry 2
I started my fifth day of work at eight thirty in the morning. I went to work and helped stock new dvd's and videos onto the shelves. Fifteen minutes before the store opened all of the employees had a meeting by the customer service desk in fron of the store, the last person that made it to the meeting was responsible for starting the meeting and that was me. In the meeting, the manager would discuss the past day and other important things that needed to be talked about. The store opened at ten o'clock. I worked with two other employees in my department.
Day 6: Journal Entry 3
Today I started my day of work at eight thirty in the morning which is my regular starting time. My manager started earlier than me, and had tons of work ready for me. For about two hours in the morning I put the newest, expensivest and most wanted dvds, movies and games in to security deviced boxes so no one can steal them. At around eleven o'clock the manager took me and a trolly to the warehouse and we loaded it with thousands and thousands of cd's which I priced, stocked in the aisles and in alphabetical order. Stocking these cd's took me until three o'clock in the afternoon. After I completed that, I just helped my manager in the warehouse and other customers that needed to find something. My shift was done at five o' clock.
Day 7: Journal Entry 4
My day at work was very tiring today.By the time I got to work, which was eight thirty in the morning, the delivery truck was there and loading boxes of stuff that needed to be recieved. My job for the first two hours of my shift was to unpack the stuff, price it and put it in the aisles for customers to purchase. After I was done that, my manager made me update prices of certain movies and games. At one thirty I went for my break. When I came back from lunch, I helped a co-worker pick up boxes from the ground and stock them on high shelves. We cleaned and re-organized the whole entertainment department, so that it has a new look and it is ready for inspection. The store is going to be inspected by the district manager tomorrow. It was another tiring tough day that just passed by.
Day 8: Journal Entry 5
My shift began at nine in the morning today. My first job was to change the prices of different movies, dvds and games. My second job was to go through all the aisles and fill in the gaps between the movies and dvd’s, this was a hard job because everything is in alphabetical order and if there is one gap, everything has to be moved. I went for my break at one o’clock. After my break, I had to scan and price one whole aisle which took me the entire day. The day was long and it was exhausting. The things I like about Future Shop are the people who work there, because they are relaxed, easy going and they always have fun while doing their job. The second thing I like is how Future Shop starts their day. They have an energetic meeting every morning which pumps up the employees and makes there day start off well. The third thing I like about Future Shop is the organization of the store. Everything has it’s own section and everything is easy to find. The fourth thing I like about Future Shop is how Future Shop employees respect their customers and are willing to practically do anything to put a smile on the customers face. The fifth thing I like about Future Shop is the break system. When some one wants to take a break, an employee from a different department is willing to take responsibility of their co-workers department while taking a break. There is no certain time you have to take a break. The sixth thing I like about Future Shop is their computer system. If a customer is looking for something and needs help, we can search anything on the computer and it tells us if we have it in stock, when it is coming in stock, and if any other stores have it in stock. This system conserves time for the employees and customers. The seventh thing that I like about Future Shop is the music playing in the store. The employees can choose what type of music they want to put on. I have heard many different types of music from Michael Jackson to Miss Pooja and it was all great. The eighth thing I like about Future Shop is their lunch room. The lunch room is great, it has a ps3, Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, rockband and many other systems on a 50`` Sony plasma TV. It also has a big green leather couch to relax on at lunch time, and they also have a table to eat food on because it is a lunchroom. The ninth thing I like about Future Shop is the stuff they sell. Mostly everything sold in Future Shop has to do with electronics, something I am interested in. The last, but not least thing I would like everyone to know about Future Shop is their shipment schedules. There is a big shipment that comes in twice a week and another shipment that comes in everyday by truck, which is very small. This is good because there are always things that customers are waiting for, and it is most likely for them to come in the next day. There are many different types of jobs that exist at Future Shop. For example, there are cashiers, managers, merchandisers and janitors. There is no education required to work at Future Shop, but there is a certain level of knowledge needed to work in different departments. A positive experience I had with a customer is unforgettable. I was very helpful for speaking Punjabi. Usually there are people that know Punjabi but at this moment there was no one, and I was the only person in that department that knew how to. The best part of all of this is that I had a conversation with the customer and he did end up spending over six hundred dollars. A positive experience I had with an employee was when we worked together to help find a certain movie for a customer. There was only one copy of the movie in the warehouse and the customer was waiting. The other employee and I went through many boxes of movies to find it and we ended up finding it. The customer was really happy after we found it. Something I experienced that was totally unexpected was the amount of work that has to be done in order to keep the store running well. It is a lot harder than it looks. There is a lot of pricing and storing to be done everyday. I finished my work experience at Future Shop and I feel as if working in Future Shop would be a fun part time job, but a really tiring and tough full time job or career. A major difference in going to school and working is the amount of time. There are a lot more hours put into working than going to school. All though we get homework in school, it is flexible and we can complete it in a certain amount of time. A similarity in going to school and working is that you have to be organized. For example, arriving on time is very important for both of these situations. Something that I will never forget about working at Future Shop are there meetings in the morning. When the announcement goes on for the meeting, every employee in the store runs as fast as they can to customer service, because the last person that arrives to the meeting has to start the meeting off, and trust me that is hard. Something I experienced that will be engraved in my memory forever is when I did the morning cheer at our meeting.
